LIHAN's ottchil kitchen tools are carved from longan wood, then finished the traditional Korean way with ottchil — a natural lacquer made from the sap of the lacquer tree blended with pine resin. The lacquer forms a hard, hygienic film over the grain, and deepens in color the longer the piece is used.

Longan is a dense, stable hardwood normally used for furniture. It holds a consistent moisture level and shape, so the tool will not warp or split after years of daily use.

Wood conducts heat poorly, which is exactly what you want in a cooking tool — it stays cool in the hand at the stove. It will not scratch a coated pan, and it works without the clatter of metal against metal.
